This is true. From what I hear, there will be some changes in the NewTek
Systems Group deal...it remains to be seen what those changes will bring.
LightWave for Alpha will most likely double in price but will include
some extra software that is not a part of the other platform releases.
My HOPE is that this re-tooling of the NewTek Systems Group will bring
forth a set standard that Alpha workstations will have to meet in order
to run the new hardware/software that is being developed...the machines
produced by Deskstation Technologies Inc (DTI) already (or soon will)
meet these standards and owners of DTI hardware would probably see other
benefits...this is all conjecture on my part though.
I was fairly certain that the original plans for the NewTek Systems Group
would not affect non-Raptor owners, but from what I've heard over the
last few days, this was NOT the case. I'm glad that NewTek and DTI are
reconsidering their plans...it would benefit no-one if LightWave for
Alpha were ONLY made available for the Raptor. I say this as a very
happy Raptor owner. =)
